Howard "Woody" Lee Wood

Howard Lee Wood “Woody,” 89, of Clemmons, North Carolina, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 13, 2022. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on February 25, 1933, the youngest of seven children to Henry and Beulah Wood. He grew up in Annapolis, Maryland, and graduated from Annapolis High in 1950. Shortly after graduation, he started his career with Western Electric, eventually retiring after 40+ years of service.

While serving our country in the Air Force in 1954, he met his wife Judy and thus began the start of a 68-year marriage. She was his pride and joy as were his five children, and he dedicated a lifetime to being present at every one of their milestones. Woody was a devoted member of Clemmons United Methodist where he faithfully sang in the choir for over twenty years. He enjoyed many serving opportunities with the Methodist Men, the Administrative Board, the Crusaders Sunday School Class, and the Young at Heart.

Woody loved all things sports, especially the Baltimore Colts and Orioles, and the North Carolina Tar Heels. His competitive spirit has allowed him to fight a long and courageous battle against the devastations of Alzheimer’s disease. His family will be forever grateful to the staff and caregivers of Trinity Elms for their compassionate care.

Woody is survived by his wife Judy of Clemmons, Debbie Wagner (Mark) of Hilton Head, SC; Steve Wood (Nola) of Greenville, SC; John Wood (Jessica) of Abingdon, MD; Linda Medlin (Phil) of Raleigh, NC, and Julie Barney (Kent) of Lewisville. He was blessed with fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Clemmons United Methodist Church.
