Jan Bailey Martin

Mr. Jan Bailey Martin, 83, of Advance passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born December 24, 1937 in Rockingham County to Raymond and Doris Bailey Martin. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science Degree and attended the University of Virginia School of Banking. He worked in various areas of the banking industry for 35 years and retired from BB&T. Jan was an active member of Clemmons Moravian Church and served on the Board of Trustees. He was also active with the WS Host Lion's Club where he served as a past President and Treasurer. Jan was the founder and first President of the NC Consumer Loans Society for Savings and Loans. After retiring, he was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Sunnyside Ministries and edited a newsletter for the Industries of the Blind. In addition to his parents, Jan preceded in death his brother, Ray Martin. Surviving are his wife, Sue Martin; 2 sons, Jordan Martin and Jonathan Martin; a daughter, Allison Martin Garrison (Michael); a grandson, Ian Bailey Garrison; and a nephew, Ricky Martin (Kari). A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday at Clemmons Moravian Church Graveyard. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. In case of inclement weather the service will be held in the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to GHA Autism Supports, P.O. Box 2487, Albemarle, NC 28002.
