Mr. Johnny Dale Roop, 74, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018. He was born May 10, 1944 in Forsyth County to the late Vivian Cockerham Roop and Shirley H. Roop. Johnny served one year in the U.S. Navy and then transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1964 to 1975 as an Aircraft Electrical Repair Technician and held the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the military, Johnny traveled extensively and moved his family to England and Germany, later returning to the United States. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 2010. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Roop is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Beck Roop, a brother, James H. Roop, and a sister, Levonda R. Craft. He is survived by a daughter, Sheila Dunlap (Calvin), a son, James D. Roop, a grandson, Christoper Allgood, and three sisters: Jacqueline R. Shew, Judy R. Jones, and Terry Leigh Myers (Richard). A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13th at the Chapel at Forsyth Memorial Park.
