Lillie Lorraine Hampton, daughter of Royce and Kate Ferguson Hampton, was born on March 4, 1929, and passed from this life on April 19, 2017. She married Sandy Ridings, a WWII veteran, on March 29, 1947. Lorraine was a Christian of 71 years, and her greatest desire was for everyone she knew to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. All who knew her can tell of ways she taught, counseled, and encouraged them in the Lord. Lorraine’s faith sustained her through her life’s trials, and was a living example of the verse, “But the path of the righteous is like the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day” (Prov. 4:18.)
Lorraine was an LPN and worked in the operating room at the Baptist Hospital. She loved pets, especially dogs, and wild birds. She had a way with flowers, and her yard was always a splash of many colors. She and husband Sandy bought and restored a log cabin, which for thirty years has hosted huge family dinners with hymn-singing, games, and laughter.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Sandy Alexander Ridings, and a great-grandson, Gabriel Alexander Moore. She is survived by children Royce Ridings of Seneca SC, Beverly Ridings of Pfafftown NC, Sandy Ridings McMullen of Navasota TX, Jonathan Ridings of Pfafftown NC, Rebecca Ridings Moore of Winston-Salem NC, and Mark Ridings of Arlington TX; grandchildren Catherine Ridings, Michael Ridings, Faber McMullen, Katherine McMullen, Alexander McMullen, Sarah Ridings Bragg, Jennifer Ridings, Robert Moore, Amanda Moore Fuller, Royce Moore, and Kevin Ridings; and four great-grandchildren. This verse summarizes Lorraine’s life: “Her children rise up and call her blessed” (Prov. 31:28.)
Lorraine’s memorial service will be at 1 pm on Monday, April 24, at Calvary Baptist Church in King.
