

Lucille “Lou” H. Mickles, 59 of Winston Salem, NC died on Saturday May 14, 2011. After a twelve year battle with Leukemia. She was born in Surry County on October 18, 1951. She was a retired Supervisor with the Forsyth County Department of Social Services. She was a wonderful and beloved mother and nana to her daughter and son in law and three grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, book reader, and jokester. She loved life and was a fighter to the end with cancer. She would not let cancer stop her from living her life, her way. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Grace Hensley, her brother Thomas Hensley, and sister Mary Kay Hensley. She is survived by her only daughter, Stacey Harris and husband, “Lou’s Son” Darrell Pulliam; two granddaughters Maddey Street and Abbey Pulliam and one grandson Scotty Pulliam, all of Boone, NC. She is also survived by one brother Johnny and wife Patsy Hensley, three sisters Christine Barker, Annis Wilson, and Ann and husband Mack Pell. She had many nieces and nephews. She also had many close friends that were like family to her, especially Carol Vaughn, Karen Burick, Ann Saunders, and countless fellow DSS coworkers. She will be remembered and missed for her wonderful attitude of loving life and living life to the fullest. The family will have a visitation on Tuesday, May 17 from 5 to 8 pm at Vogler Funeral Home Reynolda Chapel, 2951 Reynolda Rd, Winston Salem. A private Celebration of Life will take place later in the week.
