

Martha June Hatter DuVal, 91, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday October 19, 2017. She was born December 14, 1925 in Simpson County Kentucky to John Albert and Elizabeth Ryan Hatter. Even as a child, Martha June Hatter was much loved. She developed a heart problem as a child that was diagnosed many years later as a congenital heart defect. But after heart surgery she never lost her joie de vivre. She graduated from University of Kentucky with a degree in Medical Technology. And found a job in Richmond, VA where she became friends with Margaret DuVal, and met Margaret’s brother, Tommy who became the love of her life. Tommy was a juvenile diabetic, but she cared for him all of their 61 years together, and he lived to be 88. As a small child, she went with her parents to Haiti and never lost her love for travel. With Tommy, she joined the Friendship Force and went all over the world with him. Surviving are a daughter; Sarah DuVal (Wayne Whitman), and a son; John DuVal (Denise Hickox), two grandchildren and many other beloved relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, October 21, 2017 at First Baptist Church.
