Mary Agnes was born on December 20, 1941 in Winston-Salem, a daughter of the late Victor Harrison and Opal Strupe Harrison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two dear aunts, Frances Wolff, and Jessie Strupe and uncle Berger Wolff.
Mary Agnes is survived by her daughter, Jessie Rosemary McCarthy and husband Roberto Rolston and granddaughter Rosetta Pearl Rolston, of Winston-Salem; her cherished friend and father of Rosemary, William B. McCarthy of Trinity; cousins Ida Angland and husband Joe, and their children, John, Mark and Paul Angland of Greenwich, CT; and Alexander Wolff and wife, Taj Wolff and their children, Zachary and Patrick Wolff of Nashville, TN.
Mary Agnes grew up in the family home in Bethania, where she resided her entire life. She loved being a part of the historic community's recent revival, and was a well-known and beloved fixture in the neighborhood. After graduating from Northwest High School, she attended Appalachian State University, and worked for the Veterans Administration for 41 years. Mary Agnes possessed a lifelong love of music and was known for her beautiful singing voice, which she shared with the congregation at College Park Baptist Church as an active choir member. A genuine and compassionate soul who charmed everyone she met with her warmth, Mary Agnes also possessed a sharp wit and winning sense of humor. Her smile left a lasting impression on everyone. She was a lover of the arts and always enjoyed attending musical, theater and dance performances. Her granddaughter, Rosetta, was the great joy in her life, and no child has ever been more loved.
