AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Mary Katherine Tellis

5 mai 1927 – 28 février 2024
Avis de décès de Mary Katherine Tellis
AUX SOINS DE

Frank Vogler & Sons

Mary Katherine Tellis passed away on February 28, 2024 at the remarkable age of 96.

She was born on May 5, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, where she spent the majority of her vibrant life.

Throughout her years, Mary embraced a myriad of roles that that painted a picture of a bygone era. From her early career receiving junior executive training at Saks 34th to boxing chiclets at a gum factory, and later at Drake's, amidst assembling cupcakes, she assembled a life with Rocco Grasso, her first husband. Together, they celebrated the birth of three daughters.

Mary's journey was full of chapters. It was with Steve Tellis that Mary embarked on a new adventure, one that brought new experiences and travel, their move from NY to NC being a pivotal moment that marked the beginning of a new chapter for them, and for her family.

A true matriarch, Mary's heart beat for her family. Her simple joys were to whip up her celebrated pasta sauce for her loved ones and staying chic with her impeccable sense of style. Mary's late husband would affectionately refer to her as the "fashionista of the family!" She reveled in the excitement of watching the New York Yankees and tennis on tv, and enjoyed her moments lost in books. And of course, there was her cherished pampering time - her weekly hair appointments stood as a favored ritual, ensuring she always looked and felt her best.

Mary's trademark energy meant she never conceded to the years. Always bringing a spark to the room with a Twist or Lindy Hop, and a biscotti for her fellow residents at Harmony. Her humor, often delivered in spontaneous one-liners, could easily bring a room to laughter.

Reflecting on Mary's 96 years, we remember her enduring spirit; a spirit that cooked up storms in the kitchen, gracefully "twisted" and "hopped" through life's challenges, and dressed every day as if it was an occasion to be celebrated. Her legacy, spanning from Brooklyn to Long Island to Winston-Salem, from mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to friend, is a powerful testament to living a full life.

Mary is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Grace Grasso, Rosanna Scheffel, and Barbara Zarrella; grandchildren, Jackie, Christina (Curtis), Matthew (Mandy), Ian (Sandy), and Anthony (ShRhonda); great grandchildren, Jake, Ava, Adam, Emma, Caroline, Kale, and Sienna; and many other loved ones.

In lieu of traditional expressions of sympathy, Mary's family suggests honoring her memory by embracing her values: live fully, love generously, and dress splendidly.
