Pauline (Polly) Merritt Hayes was born on June 25, 1937 to Simon W. and Annie Brown Merritt in Winston-Salem. She went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2018. Polly worked as preschool teacher for several years and retired from St. John’s Lutheran Day School in 2001.
Polly is survived by her husband, Roger L. Hayes of Clemmons, sons; Harold Dean Brewer (Rena), Samuel Todd Brewer, two grandchildren; Josh Brewer and Ben Brewer, and sister; Betty Sheppard of Greensboro.
Polly was a devoted Christian and longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service which will be conducted at Frank Vogler & Sons Clemmons on Thursday, July 5 at 2:00pm. Interment will follow immediately at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Winston-Salem. The family wishes to express its thanks to the personnel at Mallard Ridge and at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center for their loving care to Polly.
