Rhoyd Eugene Barnes

Mr. Rhoyd Eugene Barnes, 78, of Advance, died suddenly Monday, November 17, 2014, at his home with his family by his side.

Rhoyd was born December 9, 1935, in Alexander County, NC, a son to the late Rhoyd Barnes and the late Louis Irene Barnes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son. He was of the Baptist Faith and on August 9, 1958 he married the love of his life, the former Charlotte Conboy. Rhoyd was employed with Pilot Freight and then, Roadway Trucking Company for 32 years combined before retiring. After retiring he enjoyed traveling, landscaping, gardening, and doing mechanical work with his hands. In his spare time he enjoyed watching NASCAR. Rhoyd could do and fix anything he set his mind to and do it right the first time. He was a very helpful man and was always dependable when you needed him. Always making sure his wife and three daughters was taken care of. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte Barnes of the home; three daughters, Cindy Dixon of Salisbury, Sharon Lookabill and husband, Phil of Mocksville, and Karen Woollard and husband, Matthew of Mocksville; five grandchildren, Amanda Longworth, Nathan Short, Larissa Woodward, Ethan and Hayden Woollard; five great grandchildren, Malachi, Adam, Haley, Lindsey, and Kaiden; and seven brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be held 2 PM, Thursday, November 20th at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Pastor Ramond Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 PM, Thursday, November 20th at Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, Clemmons Chapel.
