

He was born on August 10, 1954, in Lancaster, PA and graduated from Mannheim Township High School in 1972. He was the son of the late Gerald V. Long and the late Verna Emmert Long.
He moved to North Carolina in 1974 and lived in Winston-Salem most of his adult life. He was a welder and auto mechanic by trade and owned and operated Long VW Service for over 28 years.
Richard was an avid fisherman and loved spending time at the beach and the bay. He also enjoyed playing guitar and was a member of the infamous Camel City Jug Band.
Richard’s most precious time was that spent with family and friends, and most importantly, with his beloved son, Ben, who was his pride and joy.
In addition to his son, Ben, Richard is survived by his wife, Angela Ragan, his sisters, Linda Lowe (Robert), Carol Long, and Joan Gorlaski (Joseph), and nieces and nephews, John Taylor, Christina Lowe, Michael Lowe, Alycia Gorlaski, Matthew Gorlaski, Justin Gorlaski and Anna Long. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Verna, and his niece, Catherine Elizabeth Lowe.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 11 a.m. at Frank Volger & Sons Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem. Family and friends will be received from 10 - 11 a.m.
