Robert Earl Jones, 90, of Advance, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Born on November 19, 1935, in Mechanicsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Wayne Jones and Miriam Blanche Stum Jones. Robert was the loving husband of Rachel Jean Sherkel Jones.
Bob led a life defined by service, beginning with his enlistment with the U.S. Navy. He proudly served for four years as an Interior Communication Specialist, achieving the rank of First-Class Petty Officer. Following his honorable discharge, he used the GI Bill to attend his beloved Penn State University, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Bob’s professional career was both long and productive. After a brief time with General Electric, he joined AMP Incorporated. A highlight of his early career included installing and monitoring equipment for the Academy Awards—an event he was delighted to attend alongside his wife, Rachel.
In retirement, Bob’s commitment to others only grew. As a devoted member of Clemmons United Methodist Church, he led and completed numerous projects around the church and coordinated mission trips to Puerto Rico and supported those impacted by Hurricane Katrina in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.
Being an avid sports fan, Bob’s loyalty was divided between his Penn State Nittany Lions and his beloved Duke Blue Devils. He shared his love for basketball with his community by serving as a referee for the Clemmons Recreational basketball league for many years.
Above all, Bob was a man of God, a mentor to many, and a devoted family man. He is preceded in death by Parents Robert and Miriam, sister Gladys, and brothers Richard and Leon.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Jean Jones; daughter, Cheri Jones (Ted); son, Robert Jones (Gina); and son, Matt Jones (Jenn). He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Samantha, Kelliann, Liam, Teddy Lee, Natalie, Teagan, and Kobe.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on March 1, 2026, at Clemmons United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow in the church’s columbarium. Military honors will be presented by The VFW Post 9010.
