

He was born March 31, 1938 in Glassport, PA, a son of James and Margaret Coleman Curran and grew up in Mckeesport, PA. He married Mary Patricia “Pat” Zitz on September 13, 1958. She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Lisa Marie (Billy) Hoppis of Nokesville, VA, Thomas Lee (Darlene) Curran of Dale City, VA; grandchildren, Nicholas, Eric, Laura, Jeffery, Tabitha, and Michael; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Blotzer of Michigan City, IN; brothers-in-law, John (Denise) Zitz of New Alexandria, PA, Leo P. Axmacher, Jr. of McKeesport, PA; sisters-in-law, Cherylann Wise of McKeesport, PA, Flo (Hank) Coles of North Huntingdon, PA; and numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Tom was employed by US Airways as an IT Manager until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he started Saturday Night Dinners, lead the Outreach Program, belonged to ROMEO’s which included making children’s playhouses and picnic tables, for the Bazaar group.
He had a servant’s heart leading by example with volunteer work for the Habitat for Humanity, helping with the Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and helping with the Special Children’s School by organizing benefits.
Tom helped transport the homebound and was a strong community person helping others with things they could not accomplish. He enjoyed woodworking, cooking, golfing, and bird watching.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who was a great storyteller. His stories always taught, challenged, or just provided a good laugh.
A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Winston-Salem. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home Clemmons Chapel in Clemmons. Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park.
