

CLEMMONS – Velma Irene Cole Bryant, 77, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Irene was born on April 11, 1932, in Forsyth County, NC, to Guy W. and Ruby Maines Cole. Irene was a former long time employee of Piecegoods Shops. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Jimmy L. Bryant; and a brother, Ronnie Lee Cole. Survivors include two daughters, Cathryn Bryant Barnes and husband, Richard of Winston-Salem and Sue Bryant Burkhart and husband, Chuck of Clemmons; grandchildren, Aric (Karen) Burkhart, Rebecca Burkhart, Myriah (Jon) Cox, Laura (Johan) van Niekerk, and Hannah Barnes; great grandchildren, Corey, Brittany, and Jesse; her beloved Abbey; and her uncle and best friend, Reverend Jay Tilley. A Funeral Service for Mrs. Bryant will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, at Voglers Reynolda Road Chapel with the Reverend Charles Sparks and Dr. Earl Crow officiating. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 23, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Voglers Reynolda Road Chapel.The family wishes to thank all of those who assisted in the excellent care that Mrs. Bryant received while in the ICU at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
