Arrangements through BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL (800) 448-2210 ------------------------------------------------------------- Abraham Metz, age 93, son of Baruch and Rosa Metz succumbed to cancer after a prolonged illness. He was surrounded by family members and holding the hand of his wife of 60 years, Gerda Metz. Those who knew Abraham knew that he was a tough, driven man who made great sacrifices and worked incomparably hard all his life on behalf of the family that he loved so dearly. A Holocaust survivor who experienced hell on earth, and who lost his parents and six brothers, he came to the US with nothing and through sheer will and determined hard work, in partnership with his wife, provided a loving home and a comfortable and values driven life -- rife with opportunity -- for his family. This continued into later life, as he and his wife rose to meet new challenges with which they were confronted. Abraham served as gabbai (sexton) at Menorah Park for several decades, dedicating himself to that role and meeting his self-imposed obligations with the same reliability and sense of responsibility that he displayed throughout his life. Aside from his four children, Dr. Bernard Metz, Dr. Benjamin (Rachel) Metz, Rena (Alan) Boord, and Rose Metz-Mahalli, he had the privilege of developing relationships with his sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His graveside funeral service will take place at 3:00 pm Monday, December 12 at Zion Memorial Park, 5461 Northfield Rd. in Bedford Hts., OH. Shiva will be at the Metz home until Tuesday night, followed by completion of Shiva in Columbus. "Yehi Zichro Baruch."
