Daniel C. Triefler passed quietly on March 1, 2025, at Anna Maria of Aurora with his wife and daughters by his side. He was born on March 9, 1926, in Brooklyn, NY, the middle of three sons, to Nathan and Minnie Triefler. Daniel will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his country, and his winning personality. A child of the Great Depression, he regaled family and friends with tales of his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers and being a part of the “Knothole Gang.” His childhood was filled with games of stickball and handball. When World War II intervened, he joined the Navy as an “Electricians Mate” aboard the destroyer ship, the USS Kimberly, in the South Pacific. Like most veterans of the “The Greatest Generation” he returned home, put on a suit, and went to work. He returned stateside, settling in Cleveland, and began his career with John Hancock Life Insurance. It was in Cleveland that he met Caroline Breitbart while inner tubing on Lake Erie. They married less than a year later in 1957 and spent 68 glorious years together while raising two daughters.
He always put his family at the forefront, instilling in them an appreciation for sports, particularly running. As an early adopter, he was a member of the JCC Running Club logging over 10,000 miles and
completing a marathon. After his retirement, he and Carol embarked on fulfilling their dream
of world travel, marveling at the sites of the Great Wall of China, Japan, Israel, Alaska, and Italy. They comfortably spent their later years at Anna Maria of Aurora, enjoying many new friendships and carefree living.
He considered his family a “magnificent” legacy. Those honoring his legacy are his wife, Carol (who passed away March 5); daughters Lori (Joel) Garmon, Prospect, KY and Lisa (Rand) McFarland, Grand River, OH; granddaughters Allison (Aaron) Goldhammer, Shaker Heights, OH; Sara (Graham) Hall, Prospect, KY and Emily (Jordan) Friedman, Long Island, NY; great-grandchildren Stella and Levi Goldhammer and Grayson and Olivia Hall. Also, brother, H. Barton Triefler (Jackie). He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Herbert Triefler, and furry beloved companion, Bandit.
