Dori Haas (nee Braff) born January 11, 1955 passed away at home in Pepper Pike on May 16, 2025. She was the beloved wife of 49 years of Blair Haas, devoted mother of Jordan of Washington DC, Josiah (Dana) of Gates Mills, Hunter (Nathan Savory) of Chicago, IL and Hayden (Annie) of Darien, CT. Beloved Grandma of Asher, Levi, and Perry. She was pre-deceased by her parents Phillip and Bette (Lader) Braff.
She graduated from Glen Oak School in Gates Mills and Briarcliff College in New York. She considered herself to be a professional volunteer. She was an officer and board member of the National Council of Jewish Women; Chair, Young Women’s Division of the Jewish Welfare Fund; volunteered with Jr. League of Cleveland; the Jr Committee of the Cleveland Orchestra; and the Health Museum. She held virtually all roles as a volunteer at Hawken School including Cub Scout leader, Chair of the Fall Family Fair, Chair of the Class Parent Council, Treasurer of the Parent Association, Chair of the Parent Association, and a member of the Board of Trustees. Her favorite activity at Hawken was as a classroom volunteer working with elementary aged students as a part of Project Charlie, a program to help kids make good choices and feel confident in themselves. Years later, former students would tell her how much her presence and kindness meant to them.
She was also renown as a gourmet cook and especially as an amazing baker. While she tried her hand at catering, she learned that she would rather entertain her friends in the elegant style for which she was known. She took cooking and baking classes around the world and thought nothing of preparing a multi-course dinner for 20-30 people at home. But her favorite cooking and baking was always for her family. Despite her volunteer work and the pressures of raising four boys, she made sure to cook a dinner from scratch every night to be enjoyed around a beautifully set dining room table. As her sons grew up, their friends always knew there would be something fresh baked waiting for them when they would come over.
In later years, she battled many illnesses with grace and dignity. She was especially proud to be her oncologist’s longest surviving patient with neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer. It led her to insist that we celebrate every big (and not so big) birthday, anniversary, and other milestone together as a family often with a trip and always with a Hough Cake.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Neuroendocrine Tumor Foundation (www.netrf.org), The Rheumatology Research Foundation (www.rheumresearch.org), or Hawken School (www.hawken.edu)
