Gary Levey was born on March 25, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Sylvia and David Levey. Affectionately known in his community as the “Mayor of Cedar Center,” Gary was a kind-hearted and joyous man who valued friendship and connection. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and Ohio State University, where he built a wide network of friends and acquaintances. No matter where he went, Gary always seemed to know someone, and he delighted in those encounters.
Gary met his beloved wife, Susan, at the No Name Bar in Cedar Center, and they were married in 1973. He was a dedicated father to his three daughters—Heather (HBL), Michelle, and Darcy—and embraced the role of their baseball coach. Sunday afternoons at the movies and family dinners were sacred times for Gary, and he cherished being surrounded by his daughters, their friends, and all who affectionately called him “Garshon.”
Being a grandfather brought Gary immense happiness. He is lovingly remembered by his eight grandchildren—Peyton, Lola, and Berkeley Sinn; Bella, Jagger, and Everly Roman; and Emma and Kylie Coverstone—who were showered with his hugs and smiles. He never missed a game, play, dance, or performance, steadfast in his support and love.
Gary began his professional career as a traveling sales representative. Fifty years ago, he took a bold step by opening his first Puff-N-Stuff store, soon followed by founding Clifton Web. Known throughout Cleveland for his positive attitude and uplifting personality, Gary genuinely enjoyed attending gift shows and serving his customers, experiences that brought him daily joy. Though successful in business, his proudest role was that of a devoted husband, father, and “Papa.”
Gary is survived by his wife, Susan (née Adler), his daughters Heather Sinn (Nate), Michelle Roman (Bryan), and Darcy Coverstone (Brian), and his grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Rich Levey (Karen), and was a caring uncle to Dana and Marc Levey, and Nick and Ashton Elrad. Gary is predeceased by his parents Sylvia and David Levey, and brother Marvin.
Gary Levey’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
