Jane Litt, age 83, passed away on October 27, 2024 after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by Fred Litt, her devoted husband of 62 years, and their cherished children: Beth (z”l), Michael (Courtney) Litt, and Debbie (Ken) Rogers. Jane's legacy also lives on through her adoring grandchildren, Jacob and Adam Rogers, and Ari, Abigail, and Emily Litt. Dear sister of the late John T. Ebbers.
Born and raised in New York City, Jane embraced life with warmth and joy. She pursued her passion for education at Goucher College, earning a degree in elementary education. For 26 fulfilling years, she taught in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights school district, where her impact on young minds left a lasting mark.
While Jane found joy in her career here, it was in Hawaii where her heart truly belonged. As a docent for the Humpback Whale Sanctuary in Kihei, she immersed herself in the beauty of nature, wildlife, and conservation, including monk seal watches. Jane embraced Hawaiian culture wholeheartedly; taking hula lessons, learning Hawaiian language, and strumming her ukulele, often sharing her love for the islands with anyone willing to listen.
Known for her gregarious spirit and sense of humor, Jane was a people-watcher and made friends wherever she went- including unapologetically joining conversations from adjoining restaurant tables! Her laughter was infectious; she had a unique ability to find silliness in everything, always chuckling at Fred’s jokes (including the handful she didn’t understand!). She was the “lady with the flower in her hair” at Danbury Senior Living, always ready to brighten someone’s day with her sweet and loving nature.
Jane was a passionate advocate for language and learning. With a playful approach, she enjoyed correcting grammar and pronunciation, sharing her linguistic enthusiasm with her family. Her love for music was evident, and she would sing along with joy during Deb’s services; wherever there was music, Jane was harmonizing.
Jane will be remembered for her kindness, her love for Hawaiian culture, and the laughter and light she brought into the lives of everyone who met her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and the importance of cherishing every moment. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
