Marcy was the cherished daughter of the late Leonard and Ruth Axelband; dear sister of Susan (Michael) Gottesman, Gary Axelband, Judi (Robert) Landis; loving aunt of Brad Gottesman, Abby (Jeff) Heuerman, Joel (Lulu) Gottesman, Allysa (Daniel) Hassid, Jason (Kellie) Axelband, Lee (Collette) Axelband, Joshua Landis, Katie (Sean) Landis; and a great aunt to many. In addition, she leaves behind her close and dearest friends Randi and Frank Motz. She had strong, deep friendships with so many - she really took the time to get to know people…she loved and was loved by many.
Marcy began her career as a special education teacher in Green Bay, Wisconsin. When she moved to Chicago, she worked as a Clinical Social Worker at Charter Barkley Psychiatric Hospital, and she later designed and developed the adult day hospital program at Michael Reese Hospital. In addition, she was hired as the Fieldwork Liaison by the University of Chicago, where she was responsible for placing all graduate students in their field placement for the social work department.
In Canton, Marcy owned Outsider Gallery, and later had her own working art studio in Downtown Canton, which became a gathering place for many. Over the years, Marcy became an accomplished and prolific artist, and influential in the Canton Arts movement. Her work has been shown in various venues. Additionally, she was a trained mediator providing mediation services in Canton City Schools, and around Stark County.
All of Marcy’s life work focused on improving quality of life and respectfully helping others help themselves. She had a positive effect on those she touched. She had a thirst for knowledge and a poetic way with words. She leaves behind incredible art and a laugh we won’t forget.
The family will be having a Private Service with no visitation.
