Michael is survived by his wife, Susan, and his three sons, Matthew (Lori), Adam, and Joshua (Leilah). He was a proud grandfather to Mila and Micah, a loving brother to Mitch (Hai), and a cherished nephew of Uncle Al (Mary). He is also remembered by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Herzog (Burton Suit), his father Martin Yager (Toni), and his three four-legged best friends Tessie, Bobo, and Flicka.
After graduating from Mayfield High School, Michael earned a degree in Graphic Design from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Creativity notwithstanding, his true masterpieces came in the kitchen where he loved preparing sizable meals for family and friends. Michael made a career around food getting his start at the Spaghetti Company, before leading regional Operations for restaurants across the nation, and owning Marco Polo’s Italian Restaurant in Brecksville, Ohio. It was at his restaurant where he was able to showcase his musical prowess on the drums, during regularly hosted jam sessions. His imagination extended into publication when he authored and illustrated Sonny the Silly Sloth, in 2019 as homage to his wife.
As brilliant as he was in the arts, Michael was an even better person. He exemplified integrity and left a lasting impact on those he met—not just as a leader, but as a friend. His greatest accomplishment in life was fatherhood, having never missed a game or milestone; even attending his youngest son’s wedding against medical advice. He was a true hero to his sons and his spirit will endure in each of his boys, and in those who received the gift of life through organ donation.
