

Loving father of Joshua (Lisa) Berger, Dr. Ravi (April Sanfilippo) Berger and Dr. Sarina B. (Dr. Sammy) Elmariah. Devoted grandfather of Julian Berger, Bruce Berger, Kai and Quinn Sanfilippo, Zayne and Aydin Elmariah. Dear brother of Dr. Melvin (Jane Haylor) Berger and the late Dr. Mark Berger.
Services will be held Tuesday, June 18th at 2PM at the BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL 1985 S. Taylor Rd. Cleveland Heights, OH. Interment Mayfield Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the residence 2717 Leighton Rd. Shaker Heights, OH. TUESDAY 5:30PM-8:30pm, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY 4PM-7PM.

Dr. Berger served as Dean of the CWRU School of Medicine from 1993-2002 and during his tenure, one of the many accomplishments that he achieved was the founding and establishment of the Seidman Cancer Center.
Dr. Berger, a CWRU Distinguished University Professor and the Hanna Payne Professor of Experimental Medicine at CWRU, sustained an outstanding record of scientific leadership, commitment to education, and invaluable research accomplishments.
Amongst his accomplishments, he served as the first chief of the Hematology Oncology Division at CWRU, the founding director of the Case Cancer Research Center (currently the Seidman Cancer Center), Dean of CWRU School of Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs, and was the founder and director of the Scientific Enrichment and Opportunity program to engage underrepresented minority students from Cleveland Metropolitan High Schools in cutting edge laboratory research.
He was an internationally recognized expert in the field of energy balance and cancer, was awarded numerous grants from National Institute of Health and other agencies, authored several hundred biomedical publications, and served on the editorial board of numerous biomedical journals. He was a dedicated clinical and research mentor to students at all levels, including high school, undergraduate, medical, graduate, and postgraduate trainees, as well as faculty.
