Ruth Ellen Creed, aged 85 years, died peacefully on September 15, 2023. Born to Hyman and Ida Greenfield in 1936, she was a lifelong proud Clevelander. After graduating Cleveland Heights High School and one semester of college, she decided to fulfill her love of and desire to travel by becoming an American Airlines Stewardess. Ruth met the love of her life, Stanley Creed, on a fortuitous visit to a NYC apartment neighbor for a cup of sugar. She gave up her stewardess job after marriage (required in those days) and embarked on her career as a homemaker.
Stanley was a career Air Force serviceman, so her life of travel continued, as they moved quite frequently in the 60's - Illinois, Texas, Maine, Massachusetts, and even Guam with children born in almost every stop. A honeymoon in Mexico City was the first of a number of international vacations over the years, including SE Asia, and later in life, to Europe and US travels with friends. Ruth passed her love of travel down by taking us on some epic family road trips, from emerald mines in North Carolina to the beaches of cape Cod. Mom was an amazing cook and baker, even running her own business, selling her in-demand home-baked cakes and pastries to many happy Clevelanders. She was even featured on a TV segment with Del Donahue, relaying the story of how she named her business "Dessert Please" after her kids calls for dessert at the end of the meal.
She loved to try different cuisines and cook them at home, putting our family ahead of the foodie curve for the times. Ruth was a proud and very involved mom, and showed her love and care by joining many of the organizations that are involved with the schools, like the PTO. She faithfully attended monthly school board meetings to stay up to date, and contribute her point of view. Embarrassingly for us kids, she hosted a dinner with all of our teachers in our home toward the end of every school year. She really believed in showing appreciation to these folks who were helping to raise her children. An avid gardener, she loved to walk us through the garden and give us the names of everything she was growing.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Stanley and her older brother Paul Greenfield, she is survived by her younger brother Jim (Cathey) Greenfield of Dallas, TX. She was the proud mother to Stephanie (Jerry) Guaiumi, Howard (Laura) Creed, Sara Creed, and Rachel (Luigi) Cauteruccio. She was an even prouder grandmother to Gabriela, Julia, Caroline, Daniella, Robert, Michael, and Ari.
