Shirley was a decades long community activist and volunteer. She volunteered at the Nottingham United Methodist Church Food Pantry for over 30 years. She was secretary of the civic club and volunteered at the youth center where she taught ceramics and painting. Shirley would give of her time for anything kid related.
As a community activist Shirley worked with her city councilman in Cleveland to get the local playground lighted at night for safety.
She worked with RTA to get a local circulator bus to serve the neighborhood which allowed the elderly and those without vehicles to get around the city.
Shirley's death will be felt throughout the community where she will be greatly missed.
Shirley was the beloved wife of Harold Emchick (deceased); devoted mother of Michele (Mark) Emchick; Renee Emchick, Mark J. Emchick and Robert S. Emchick; loving grandmother of Jessica Dryden and Tiffany Emchick; cherished great-grandmother of Kingston and Canaan Dryden and Sophia Williams.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Ridge Road Cemetery (American Hebrew Benevolent Association section), 3824 Ridge Road, Brooklyn Hts., OH on Monday, August 9 at 11 am.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 8 at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel, 1985 S. Taylor Rd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44118 from 6 to 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley's memory may be made to the Food Distribution Center - Nottingham United Methodist Church, 18316 St Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
