Sidney Cornrich, age 95, passed away peacefully at his home on December 11, 2023. Born in East Liverpool, Ohio, the son of Nathan and Dora Cornrich, Sid learned from an early age to value family and friendship and stayed close with many of those early relationships throughout his life. At age 16, Sid went to The Ohio State University where he loved college and fraternity life and participating in OSU’s marching band. At OSU, Sid fell in love with Rita Rosenberg, who he later married and shared 53 years together. In 1951, after graduating from The Ohio State University School of Law, and the day after he took the Ohio Bar Exam, Sid reported for duty and training since he was drafted to serve in the Korean War. In 1952 he arrived in Korea and managed patrols, artillery support and was a forward observer while being promoted to Lieutenant and Battalion Communication Officer. Sid was awarded a meritorious Bronze Star for “leading an effective unit in combat against an armed enemy,” an award given to under 1% of those who served. After arriving home from service, Sid opened a law practice in East Liverpool, Ohio and soon married Rita on August 2, 1953. Within a year, the couple moved to Cleveland, Ohio where Sid practiced law for over 60 years and owned his own firm almost that entire time. Sid and Rita’s greatest joy was spending time with their children, grandchildren and wonderful friends. After Rita passed away in 2006, Sid continued these traditions and experienced the joy of having great grandchildren. He also cherished the friendships he made in Florida after he retired and the years he spent with Sheryl Brunswick and her family. Sid is survived by his children: Jo Ellen Cornrich, Neil Cornrich, and Karen Hess (Roger); his grandchildren: Jonathan Levey, Jordan Levey (Ben Lenet), Zachary Hess (Elena), Taylor Hess (Noah Hutton), Brian Hess (Sam Alviani), and Nic Ludwig (Ally); and his great grandchildren: Alice Rita Hess, Freddie Hess, Clementine Hess, Zelda Hess Hutton, and Jude Alviani-Hess; and his sister Stella Birnbaum. Services will be held Friday December 15, 2023 at 1:00 PM, at Bet Olam Cemetery (Park Synagogue Section) 25796 Chagrin Blvd. Beachwood. Contributions suggested to The Cleveland Jewish Federation or InMotion.
