Dolores Ann Lockhart was born November 29, 1956 in Cleveland Ohio to Elder Titus Lockhart (late) and Agatha Lockhart. She was the only daughter of four children. Dolores began her education at E. M. Williams Elementary school, Whitney M. Young Middle School and graduated in June 1975 from John F. Kennedy High School. While at Kennedy, Dolores excelled as an actress in the Drama department; After which, she entered Cuyahoga Community College graduating in June 1979 with an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She used these skills to open and operate the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ Daycare. Dolores furthered her education at Jane Addams and earned her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). After briefly serving as an LPN, she returned to Cuyahoga Community College to obtain her RN degree.
Dolores was saved at a musical held in Toledo, Ohio at the age of 13. However, she sang her first solo at the age of 5 and remained active at New Jerusalem COGIC with her brothers under the pastorate of her father and mother. Dolores served as a Sunday School Teacher, Minister of Music, Choir Director, Youth Leader and wore many other hats as were needed. Dolores also read music and played the organ and piano skillfully. She also served at the local and state Jurisdictional levels – including her ministry as a Sunday School Field Representative in the Ohio North First Jurisdiction.
On October 17, 1981, Dolores was united in Holy Matrimony to Stephen M. Gulley. After serval years of working as an RN, she began to experience health challenges but remained faithful to God – encouraging others as she refused to allow illness to interfere with her dedication to God. Everywhere Dolores went she lit up the room and environment with her infectious smile, laughter, singing, great sense of humor, and vibrant personality.
After, her father transitioned to Glory, Dolores continued faithfully serve under the Pastorate of her brother, Elder Stanley Lockhart and First Lady Cynthia Lockhart before they relocated to Georgia. Dolores began everyone morning with Praise and Worship with her mother and on the 6:30am Prayer Line of New Jerusalem COGIC, now under the Pastorate of Elder John K. Grimes and First Lady Angela Grimes. She enjoyed singing songs, such as “I’m Better than Blessed”, and “It is Well With my Soul”. If her brother, Christopher Lockhart, had written Dolores’ Story, he would have simply said “She Made It!!!!!”
Dolores leaves to cherish the memory of her life: Her Mother – Missionary Agatha Lockhart; Her Brothers - Elder Stanley Lockhart (Cynthia) and Christopher Lockhart (Gracie); Her Caregiver – Mother Willie Mae Graham; and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and Friends.
