

Emma Hodge was born October 13, 1935 in Blakley, Georgia to the union of the late Julian Ransome Goolsby and Emma Lee Hubbard Goolsby. Emma attended school in Blakley, Georgia and at a young age relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where she attended East Tech High School.
In 1954 she was united in holy matrimony to Joseph C. Hodge Sr., to this union two sons were born; Joseph C. Hodge Jr., and Reginald Hodge. Emma worked for General Electric as an assembler for several years, and retired from Sears where she was a sales representative winning several awards as their Top Sales Associate, which she was very proud of. Later in life Emma also worked as a Home Health Aide where she attended to the well being and needs of her single client for many years.
Emma was a faithful member of Second Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church for several decades. Later in life after the separation of her 1st husband she was united in marriage to Herbert Welch who preceded
her in death. Emma later became a member of Bethany Christian Church where she was a active member and sang in the choir.
Emma was known for being a sharp dresser, she was also known by her family and close friends for her generosity and was a inspiration to her nieces and nephews inspiring them to be strong men and women. Early on in life Emma had a passion for flowers and loved gardening. She was preceded in death by parents, both husbands, sisters; Amanda Hall, Bessie Taylor and Bennie Washington.
She leaves to cherish fond memories her beloved sons; Joseph C. Hodge Jr., Reginald Hodge, grandchild, Regina Johnson, great grandchild Khemya Johnson, one brother; Julian Ransome Goolsby Jr. (Deneen) sisters; Tina Polk, Vivian Laganke, Elzeria McGlothin and a host of nieces, nephews and loving family and friends.
Emma passed away on June 15, 2024 at her home surrounded by her beloved family, she will truly be missed.
