February 9,1967. She was the youngest of three, and the only girl to Willie
Speer and Carole Speer (deceased). She lived with her mother until the
age of 7. Then her and her brothers, Willie John Speer (deceased), and
Michael Lee Speer, moved with their father and step-mother Beverly Speer.
She grew up in the church, accepting Jesus Christ at an early age. Laurie
loved to spread positivity wherever she went. She enjoyed reading countless
books, playing with her cousins, and learning as much as she could.
At the age of 22, she became a mother to her son Laurence Michael
Speer to whom she dedicated her life. She would go on to have a daughter,
Lacey Beverly Speer, who would later pass away of SIDs. Despite the
pain, she still raised her son the best she could. She began working for the
Hunger Network of greater Cleveland, where she would stay for 20 years.
At the age of 32, she married William Lewers (deceased). Laurie would
later go on to graduate from The University of Phoenix with her Associate’s
Degree in Web design. She would later become a home owner, while
working a full-time job, raising a teenage son, and being the sole provider
for the household.
Laurie was always a community mom. She would welcome any
child with no judgment. Every house she lived in would be full of kids,
because of her warm nature, her fun and creative ideas, and her cooking. She
always did activities with her son, as well as prepared him for life. She was
always honest with her son. She taught him how to do his taxes when he
was 15 and fed his creativity in a positive way. With her teachings, she was
able to keep her son out of jail. She was a very strong woman, and hated to
see anyone sad.
In the year 2015 she began working for Hospice of the Western
Reserve, where she would remain until her passing. At the age of 53, she
became a grandmother to her grandson, Levi Micah Speer. She lived to see
her son form his own family and company. Laurie’s grandson has 2 older
siblings, Erremiah and Olivia Joiner, who she loved as her own.
She is survived by her father, Willie (Beverly) Speer, brother Michael
(Natalia) Speer, son Laurence Speer, grandson Levi Speer, countless aunts,
uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
