

Seeking a better life for the family, Benjamin’s parents relocated to Philadelphia. Benjamin spent the early years of his life in Philadelphia where he accepted Christ at an early age. Benjamin received his formal education in Germantown, Pennsylvania.
In 1960, Benjamin went to serve his country and joined the United States Air Force where he developed a passion for mechanical engineering. During his military tenure, Benjamin was honored to be one of the few African American B-52 Bomber Crew Chiefs in the United States Air Force.
Shortly after service, Benjamin planted three beautiful seeds and blessed this earth with three gifts to life; Lisa, Wayne and Demond.
Benjamin exhibited a strong work ethic and it was made evident in the many positions he held over the years. After departing his remarkable service to our country, Benjamin sought higher education and attended Lakeland College in Mentor, Ohio. He then continued his passion for mechanical engineering at the Franklin Institute of Technology where he worked in Mechanical Research and Development Department.
Benjamin was then recruited by IBM and relocated to Washington DC. While working in Washington, Benjamin met his soon to be soul mate and found love in the eyes and heart of Cheryl Eames. While remaining true to his passion, in 1977, Ben’s love for Cheryl guided his heart and he to relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. In 1978, Benjamin and Cheryl were united in Holy Matrimony.
Benjamin’s love for computers and technology led him to a fruitful and rewarding 38 year career at IBM, relocating to several states including Washington D.C., Cleveland, OH, Silver Springs, MD and Denver, Colorado. During his tenure at IBM, Benjamin was recognized through several commendations and monetary awards for resolving company wide issues.
Not one to rest on his laurels; after retirement from IBM, Benjamin embarked upon a career at Xcel Energy where he held the position of IT Specialist. From there he moved to West Virginia and then to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked for the IRS as an IT specialist.
Ben loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was known for sending special notes, sharing stories, books and wisdom to assist in their personal growth and development. He saw their gifts, researched what best suited their needs and provided them with the tools to magnify their talents He was known to be a man who was not short on his opinion yet loving to everyone he met. Ben and Cheryl spent 40 beautiful years together. Following Ben's career, he and Cheryl enjoyed gardening, music, photography, moving state to state and many travels across the country. Together, Ben and Cheryl became diplomatic forces and were very active in the Urban League Guild in Denver Colorado and vigorous participants in the Barack Obama presidential election in 2008.
Ben made his journey home to his final resting place on July 13, 2018. He leaves to cherish in his memory, a loving wife, Cheryl; one daughter, Lisa Gunn; two sons, Wayne Jones and Demond Hammond(Marcia); four grandchildren, Craig, Nicolas, Ethan and Lauren; mother, Elizabeth Jones; one sister, Jean Williams (Whitney); one brother, George Jones (Claudia) and a host of nephews, a niece, family and friends
