Juanita Ann (Holloway) Scott, loving mother, cousin, friend, and devoted
sister of Deaconess Shirley Marie Hunter, who preceded her in death July
5, 2016... was born in Cleveland, Ohio, August 17, 1940 to the late William
Thomas and Corrine Marie (Sharpe) Holloway.
Juanita "Nita", attended and with unending school spirit, graduated from
Glenville High School, visiting from time to time and volunteering for the
occasional school event.. GO TARBLOODERS! (she insisted I say that :))
Following in the footsteps of the big sister she adored, Juanita committed
to a Christian life early in her youth. And this faith was the guiding path
of her life.
Working for then S.S. Kresge (now Kmart Corp.) Juanita planning a career
in Management, started in food service, eventually assisting in hiring
and managing of new service trainees. She was reassigned to Jewelry &
Cosmetics where her diligence and quick study of the department, lead to
promotions to Department Manager and eventually Cosmetics Buyer.
Juanita’s career in retail was cut short by a spinal and lower back injury in
1978, from which she would not fully recover. And being told by physicians
she’d likely be wheelchair bound later in life, proved them wrong.
Working with therapists and her doctor, she was cleared within two years to
return to light duty employment, finding work with the Cleveland Public
School System as a Cafeteria Cashier and occasional Server. A relapse
would end her work life 4 years later.
Although being physically limited herself, only mobile now with the use of
a walker or cane, she still found a way to be active and express the kindness
and desire to help others she was known for.
She turned a greater focus and love of baking, to those around her
proclaiming "I still have two legs, two hands, and what Mama taught me.”
From that point on there was no one in her area or apartment building that
she knew of as ill or shut in, that did not receive a visit with prayer, a hot
meal and dessert, up to and until felled by a stroke on December 12, 2014.
She leaves to mourn, celebrate, and remember her fondly, her sons Anthony
(Tony) and Crenshaw Tyrone Scott III, nephews Jonas Jr., Richard
(deceased), nieces Corrine, Denise, and Laura Hunter; as well as the many
cousins, family and friends, and all who knew, loved and respected her.
