Beverly was born on December 5, 1948, in Bridgeport, CT. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Joan (Hansen) Bernerd. She graduated from Stratford High School, received her Bachelor’s degree from College Keuka in Penn Yan, NY and her Master’s degree in Education from the University of Bridgeport. She worked many years as an elementary school teacher in Stratford then took time off to be a stay-at-home mom for her two boys. She later taught at the YMCA in Milford before she retired as the nursery school Director from Trinity Lutheran in Milford.
She is survived by her best friend and beloved husband of 52 years, Richard Schreyer, her children Tom Schreyer and wife Michelle, Matt Schreyer and wife Sarah and three loving grandchildren who were her world, Tessie, Owen and Wyatt. She also leaves behind her brother Raymond Hansen and wife Lori, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Norma Hudson.
Beverly loved being with her family and travelling with Richard. They enjoyed many cruises, going to concerts and plays, especially her favorite Les Misérables, visits to see Mickey Mouse in Florida and spending time with friends. She was an avid fan of the UConn Women’s basketball team, and we all knew not to call her during the game. She loved her grandchildren more than anything, she would attend Tessie and Owen’s sporting events every chance she could with that big smile ear to ear and absolutely loved when Wyatt came to spend time playing at her house. She also loved her church and was a member of Trinity Lutheran in Milford.
She left an imprint on all our hearts and will greatly be missed. But she would not want us to be sad, she would want us to hold her close to our heart and show kindness in all that we do because that’s who she was, the kindest, most loving person you were lucky to have met.
Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday, April 11 at 12:00 pm directly at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milford, CT. Burial to follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Bridgeport, CT. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Beverly’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/give/memorials-and-dedications.html).
