Charlie was born in Norwalk, CT on May 20, 1950. He was a Master Chief in the United States Navy where he served his country proudly for 28 years, being awarded multiple meritorious service awards, including a Bronze Star prior to his retirement. When not on active duty, he was a Logistics Manager for Unilever in Clinton and Watson in West Haven. He was loved and well known in his community for his many years as a first responder EMT for the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department, as well as a member/officer for the Clinton VFW.
Charlie, or “Master Chief” as he was often called, was an extraordinary man, devoted husband, father, Papa, and friend, with a unique ability to spark meaningful conversations and form lasting connections with all those around him. He was a rock, a confidant, and a partner in countless adventures with his family: Tough Mudders, Ultra Marathon races, brewery visits, camping trips, beach getaways, golf games, road trips, and endless hours of cribbage.
He had a profound effect on his grandchildren, who absolutely adore him. He would never miss a single game of hockey or dance recital. He would take them on impromptu trips for ice cream, trips to Misquamicut, picking blueberries off their plants, and showing up for every school event that he could. And let’s not forget the surprise treats and notes left in the fridge or freezer for them when he was just “passing through”. His grandchildren knew that their Papa loved them dearly and there was not a single thing he wouldn’t do for them.
His impact on our lives has been immeasurable, and his love and devotion to his family has been a constant source of inspiration to us all. He was always there to support his loving wife, kids, grandkids and friends; offering guidance, protection, and an ear for whatever was needed to be said, whenever it was needed.
Although his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit, love, and legacy will continue to guide us. We are forever grateful for the time we shared with him, and we celebrate his life knowing that he is now at peace and able to rest comfortably.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Firulli MacKenzie, son Jared MacKenzie, daughter Victoria (Steve) Romsky, son Timothy (Elizabeth Moseley) Hannon, and son Patrick (Amanda) MacKenzie. His grandchildren- the light in his life- Lilli Romsky, Aidan MacKenzie, Callum MacKenzie, and Aurora MacKenzie. His brother Walter (Judy) MacKenzie and his dog Zoei.
He was predeceased by his father and mother Charles Henry and Claire Shapiro MacKenzie, his brother Norman MacKenzie, and his sister Sylvia MacKenzie.
Calling hours for Charlie’s friends and family will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 4PM to 7PM at Swan Funeral Home, located at 80 E. Main St, Clinton, CT. The funeral procession will be held at approximately 9:15 AM on Friday, March 28, 2025 to State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT with 10AM burial services immediately following.
