Born in Hartford, CT, on January 13, 1931, Jean was the cherished daughter of Robert E. and Elizabeth (Wurthmann) Mathison. She grew up in West Hartford, graduating from William Hall High School, and later channeled her love for the arts into a Master’s degree in Art from the University of Hartford. Jean generously shared her considerable creative talents with her family and later with middle school students at the Montville Public Schools until her early retirement.
Since 1950, Jean had lived in Harbor View, Clinton. She loved her home and neighborhood. In those early years, she enjoyed sailing. In her later years, Jean's life was profoundly shaped by her faith. As an active and incredibly generous member of the Clinton Baptist Church, she walked closely with Jesus Christ, living out her beliefs through her steadfast support of her church community.
Jean was predeceased by her sister, Martha M. Fuller, and her nephew, Robert L. Fuller. Her memory will be kept alive by her surviving family, including her niece, Marcy Fuller of Westbrook; her nephews, H. Kit Fuller (Wanda) of Longmont, CO, and Fred N. Fuller (Penny Fletcher) of Midway, UT, and Barbara Fuller of Old Saybrook (widow of Robert); also four great-nieces and nephews, Heather Culwell, Graham Fuller, Katrina Aiken, and Erik Gustafson.
A private burial will take place at Beaverbrook Cemetery in Clinton at the convenience of the family. To honor Jean’s memory and her love for local heritage, donations may be made to the Westbrook Historical Society, PO Box 148, Westbrook, CT 06498.
