Jeanne C. Sedik Blythe (Reid), 88, of Killingworth, CT passed away peacefully on December 31, 2015. She was born March 5, 1927 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late William & Bernice Reid of Chicago, Illinois. Jeanne attended Bloom High School in Chicago and after graduating in 1945, she attended Northwestern University where she became a lifelong member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After graduating with a degree in elementary education in 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, the late Joseph J. Sedik of Chicago, Illinois in August, 1950. Over the course of her life, Jeanne worked as a bank teller, an elementary education teacher, and after many years, retired from the position of head librarian at Killingworth Library in 1990 where she shared her love of books, especially mysteries, with the public. Jeanne felt that books took you away to a fictional land. But that didn’t matter, it was a wonderful place and completely removed from your day to day life. She traveled far and wide through many books over the course of her life time. She was instrumental in the fund raising and building of the new Killingworth Library and continued on as a volunteer until 2008. Jeanne will also be remembered for having a great love of animals, especially dogs, wolves and birds. She was predeceased by both her first husband of 41 years, Joseph Sedik in 1991, and her second husband of 22 years, Richard Blythe of Killingworth, CT on October 31, 2015. She is survived by her children, sons, Reid Sedik of New Britain, CT, and David and his wife Alexandra (Vlade) Sedik of Budapest, Hungary, and her daughter, Carol and her husband Brian Hogan of Avon, CT and step son Mark and his wife, Janet Blythe, of Litchfield, Maine. She is also survived by five granddaughters, two grandsons, two great granddaughters and one great grandson, her dear friend Maureen Frisbie, and her beloved dog, Pepper II.
