

Joan was born on November 16, 1926 in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Ann and Raymond Granger, before settling in Westbrook. She graduated from the Old Saybrook Main Street School in1944.
Joan worked for many years at Knothe Brothers, a belt and suspender manufacturer, in Westbrook, retiring in 1994.
She lived in Westbrook’s Ambleside community and was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished time spent with family.
Joan enjoyed watching the New York Yankees and Tom Brady quarterback the New England Patriots. She had a special place in her heart for the UConn Women’s Basketball team and enjoyed any game she could attend. She will be remembered as an avid reader and loved long walks.
Joan is survived and will be dearly missed by her son Coleman and his wife Eileen of Old Saybrook, Connecticut and Norfolk, Massachusetts, where Coleman serves as Fire Chief; two Granddaughters Cailin Bushnell, RN of Old Saybrook and Erin Pumerantz and husband Dan, also of Old Saybrook, along with two Great Grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brother Raymond Granger, formerly of Old Saybrook and Florida.
Joan's family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Old Saybrook Apple Rehab staff for their wonderful care and to her friends at Ambleside for their kindness and support.
At Joan’s request, a graveside Remembrance Gathering will begin at 11am, Cypress Cemetery, Westbrook, Connecticut, on Saturday, September 17, 2016. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers or cards, Memorial donations to her memory may be made to the Westbrook Ambulance Association, Inc., 1316 Boston Post Road, Westbrook, Ct. 06498.
