John William Craft, 59, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28th, 2023 at Hartford Hospital. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosalind; children John-Donald and Saoirse; parents John and Edna; brother Lawrence and wife Ann; brother Thomas and wife Kerry; brother Jason and wife Heather; sister Jacqueline, nephews Liam, Braedon, Lucas, Teagan and Albie; niece Beatrice; sister-in-law Melanie and husband Andrea; and dear friends Kevin and wife Fatima Dubauskas.
John was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and loyal friend to all who knew him. He had an open, generous heart which overflowed with a deep love of music. He was a wonderful tenor, and he earned his degree in music performance from the University of Connecticut. John was a dedicated cantor and sang for many years at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Waterbury, and he cantored at St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation in Clinton for the last 15 years.
John was the Upper School music and drama teacher at Rumsey Hall School for over 25 years. He was proud to be part of the Rumsey community where he made dear friends. John was also a lover of all things Gilbert & Sullivan and was a lead tenor performer with Simsbury Light Opera Company and The Connecticut Gilbert & Sullivan Society for many years.
Throughout his battle with brain cancer, John remained upbeat and faced all challenges with unparalleled courage. His quick wit and great sense of humor never deserted him, and he had the ability to make light of the harder moments. He was honored and deeply moved by all who aided him this past year, and he truly knew he was loved by many.
The family would like to thank everyone for their support, generosity, and prayers.
