Joyce Snyder

Joyce S. Snyder, 68 of Clinton, passed away February 5, 2011 at home after a long illness. She was born July 4, 1942 in Westfield, MA to Guy and Olga (Hansen) Shaw. She is preceded in death by parents and brother, Robert E. Shaw. Joyce is survived by husband of 44 years, Peter E. Snyder, daughter, Dr. Lori A. Snyder and her fiancé Alexander J. Stringer of Walton on the Thames, England, granddaughters, Amber Elise Snyder and Wilhelmina Snyder Stringer, both of England. Joyce is also survived by sister, Cynthia Brock and her husband Michael of Salisbury, NC, sister-in-law, Mary Jo Shaw of New Palestine, Indiana, brother-in-law, Paul A. Snyder of Madison and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Joyce grew up in West Simsbury, CT, graduated form Simsbury High School in 1960 and The Grace New Haven School of Nursing in 1963. She retired from Gladeview Health Care in Old Saybrook and previously worked at Saybrook Convalescent Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital. She was a member of the Grace New Haven Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, NSDAR, Jordan Freeman Chapter, Life member of Girl Scouts of America, Newport Preservation Society, and the United Methodist Church in Clinton. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, February 11 at the Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main Street, Clinton.
