

Thomas Francis Smith Sr., 81, passed away surrounded by loved ones on October 3, 2022 following a brief and sudden illness. Born on September 11, 1941 in New Haven, CT, Thomas was the son of the late James Smith and Grace (Cook) Smith. Thomas married his wife, Jane (Baker) Smith in 1959, they spent 28 long years together before her passing in 1987. He then married Irene (Roczynski) Smith in 1989 they happily blended their families and were together until her passing in 2021. Thomas joined the Army, proudly serving his country for 3 years. He later went on to work for the Clinton Department of Public Works, serving the community for 40 plus years. He also kept those in his community safe, having served in the Clinton Fire Department as fire police.
Thomas was an avid hunter taking every chance he had to get up in a deer stand and enjoy nature. He also enjoyed building and riding custom Trikes, participating in dozens of charity rides every summer. He found a church community during retirement in South Carolina which he took pride in helping out at homeless shelters and other church sponsored events, even starring in a Christmas Pageant. He enjoyed his time in Connecticut spending time with loved ones the past year before his passing. He enjoyed going to bingo, eating dinners at his favorite places (Leon’s, pizza palace, and Johnny ads), watching bowling, cheering on at softball, boating, and just spending time with his kids and grandkids. Everyone who knew Thomas, knew of his humor and wit, which he carried until his final day.
As well as being twice widowed by his wives Jane and Irene, Thomas is predeceased by brothers Bill and James, sister Debbie, his son Timmy and grandson James. Thomas will be greatly missed by his children Thomas (Susie), Wayne (Brenda) Mark, Keith, Steven and Kurt (Hollie) ,Sara, Cherie (Ethan), PJ (Kristen) .He is also survived by his Grandchildren, Tommy, Justin, Brittney, Wayne, Courtney, Christian, Nicholas, Giavanna, Courtney, Hannah, Kathryn, Felix and Chandler and great grandchildren Neveah, Justin, Tyler and Ashley. He is also survived by his brother David. He will also be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, many close friends, and dear friends and faith mentors Jon and Tammy.
Calling hours will be held on October 17th from 4pm to 8pm at Swan Funeral Home located at 80 East Main St, Clinton, CT. Burial will be private.
