After serving proudly in the Air Force for 4 years, Bernie pursued higher education and earned a Master's degree in finance from UNH. An avid woodworker, Bernie turned his passion into a community endeavor by founding The Village’s Woodshop where he shared his skills and love for the craft with many. His creations, much like his spirit were a testament to his patience, precision, and creativity.
Bernie had a deep passion for golfing, often spending weekends on the green perfecting his swing. His love for travel took him to many places around the world. Known for his warm heart and generous spirit, he was surrounded by a large circle of friends who cherished his companionship and kindness.
In a beautiful chapter in his life, Bernie moved from Connecticut to Michigan to be with his sweetheart Karen. Their story is one of deep affection and unwavering support. Together they built a home filled with joy, laughter, and love.
Bernie was a beloved Husband, for 33 wonderful years to Karen Harkins, loving father to David Harkins and the late Dana Harkins; step-father to William Grindstaff; cherished grandfather to Max, Calista, and Atalisa; dearest brother to the late Catherine (the late Curt) Orr, Jack (the late Nickie) Harkins, and Rose (Paul) Gencarella along with many nieces and nephews; special friend to the late Steve Himburg together with many other friends. He will be truly missed by all who knew him including his pup Oreo.
