Cary Eugene Smith, known to most as Gary, passed away on February 2, 2026, at the age of 75 in Clinton Township, MI. A long-time resident of the area, Gary was born on August 19, 1950, in Detroit, MI. He will be remembered as a charismatic, kind, and outgoing individual.
Gary had a lifelong passion for film and television. He particularly enjoyed the James Bond and Godfather franchises, Marvel and DC movies, and nearly any action or sci-fi film. He also had a great appreciation for comedy in film and on television. Gary shared a special love for horror movies with his niece, Rachelle. Though he claimed not to be a fan of the genre, he occasionally watched romantic comedies with his wife as well. Gary also loved game shows. When he wasn't watching a movie, the Game Show Network was almost always on. Gary found immense joy in the screen and loved discussing his favorite films with anyone who would listen.
A man of faith, Gary dedicated the last 20 years to a weekly email program. He loved motivating others by sharing messages of hope, love, and spiritual guidance, alongside tips for mental and physical well-being.
He is survived by his loving wife, Robyn. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mamie Smith; his brothers, Charles and Irv Smith; his parents-in-law, Arlene and Cecil (Victor) Broomfield; and his brother-in-law, Todd Broomfield, with whom he shared a special bond.
The family has entrusted Kaul Funeral Home in Clinton Township, MI, with the arrangements. Gary’s vibrant spirit and legacy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
