

Mr. Daniel Allen Daugherty, age 52. Passed away February 2, 2011. Beloved spouse of Lynn Daugherty, Beloved father of Daniel Daugherty Jr. (Michelle) and Matthew Daugherty. He is also survived by his parents James and Patricia Daugherty, siblings Dennis (Kayleen) Daugherty and Deidre (John) Grant. Loving grandfather to Gavin Daugherty. Loving uncle to Brian Daugherty, Jennifer (Frank) Ruggirello, Madison Grant, Frederick Adams III, Nichole (Stephen) Kowalske, and Kaysee Adams. Visitation at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road (18 Mile), Clinton Township on February 5, 2011 from 3-8 p.m. Funeral Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 3 p.m.
Daniel Allen Daugherty was born on June 6, 1958 at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of James and Patricia Daugherty. Daniel grew up in Utica and Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Daniel was raised with three siblings. He had an older sister Debbie, older brother Dennis, and younger sister Dee. Daniel was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Daniel had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Daniel was an active child who took part in baseball. In his spare time he liked frogs, frogs, and more frogs. However, to Daniel, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
A typical teenager, Daniel had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Henry Ford II High School in Sterling Heights, Michigan in 1977. He enjoyed some classes more than others, his favorite class in high school was Band. He was a drummer in the high school band and at local theaters.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Daniel enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, he was best friends with Lee Anderson. Later in life, he became friends with Don Keener, Chris Chase, Brian Woodhouse, Gaylen Sape, and Irv Prange.
On September 2, 1978 Daniel exchanged wedding vows with his high school sweetheart Lynn Kathleen Swords at Troy Baptist Church of Troy, Michigan. Empathic and loyal, Daniel was committed to making his new family happy.
Daniel worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Daniel was blessed with two sons, Daniel Jr. and Matthew. Another blessing for Daniel was the gift of his grandson, Gavin James Daugherty.
Fortunately, Daniel enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Daniel worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was an Automation and Instrumentation Control Specialist. He was employed for 21 years by CMS Energy and 2 1/2 years by Amerisource Bergen. Daniel always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Daniel enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were motorcycle riding and being with Lynn. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Daniel found pleasure in sports. Recreational sports included motorcycles, golfing, and anything with Lynn. Daniel was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were golf, football, and motorcycle racing.
Throughout his life, Daniel was a doer and was always actively involved in many organizations. Daniel was a member of the CCC, AMA (American Motorcycle Association) District 14 Motorcycle Club, and Bent Wheels.
Daniel’s faith was important to him. He was a Deacon at Countryside Community Church from 1992 to 1997.
Daniel enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included going to the beach and off-road riding.
Daniel was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. Two of his favorites were Clifford, a Black Lab, and Token, a black cat. They were best friends for, Clifford for 12 years and Token for 18 years.
Daniel passed away on February 2, 2011, surrounded by his wife, his sons, and grandson at home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Daniel fought a brave battle against cancer. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Daugherty, sons, Daniel (Michelle) Daugherty Jr. and Matthew Daugherty, and grandson Gavin. He is also survived by his parents James and Patricia Daugherty, siblings Dennis (Kayleen) Daugherty and Deidre (John) Grant. Loving uncle to Brian Daugherty, Jennifer (Frank) Ruggirello, Madison Grant, Frederick Adams III, Nichole (Stephen) Kowalske, and Kaysee Adams. Services were held at Resurrection Funeral Home in Clinton Township, Michigan on Sunday, February 6, 2011.
Simply stated, Daniel was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Daniel leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Daniel A. Daugherty.
