

Daniel J. Oprita, 82, of Warren, passed away Thursday January 21 at his home. Dan was born to George and Pauline (Serban) Oprita in Detroit on Christmas Day, 1933. Dan was the youngest of three children in his family, the oldest being his brother George and in the middle his sister, Emelia “Dolly”. Mr. Oprita retired after 37 years at GM where he worked as a model maker. He was a member of the US Army and was a member of VFW Menge Post #6756 in Center Line. Dan was also a member with his wife of B.P.O.E. Lodge #2292, a 32nd Degree Mason and Knights Templar. Encouraged by his wife, Dan took up woodcarving, his first project was a jewelry box for his daughter. He became very proficient at carving and exhibited at the Michigan State Fair. Mr. Oprita was a very proud father and “Papa” to his grandchildren. “He was a one-in-million guy, known for his great sense of humor” his daughter said. He was fully engaged and committed to everything in which he was involved. Mr. Oprita mentioned many times his pride in his son and his enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Dan met Vonda at one of his famous house parties. They married on August 12, 1978 after a year-long relationship. They enjoyed a wonderful 37 years together, raising two children, Daniel J. (Melanie) and Nicole (Andrew) Barnett. Dan was excited to become “Papa” to his grandchildren, Aidan, Liam, Bryce, and Hadleigh. Dan’s sister, Emelia “Dolly” Matoin, survives him and his brother George and their parents preceded him in death.
Friends may visit Sunday from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Road, Clinton Township and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral 11:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 32400 Hoover, Warren.
