True to his nature, Dad was making our mom laugh until the very last moment of his life. Born in Grosse Pointe but calling Detroit home for his early years, he became a barber, joining his uncle and his dad at McCubbin’s Barber Shop in Grosse Pointe Woods. Though he closed the shop in 2015, he continued working/entertaining his many loyal customers until the end.
His personality was magnetic and could fill a whole room. He could make fast friends with a perfect stranger. He remembered the personal details nobody else could and was well known for his thoughtful, generous, and often unexpected gifts. What we’ll remember most, though, are the quiet, gentle moments holding our kids, his five grandsons.
Our mom and his wife of 45 years, Kathy; we, his sons, David (Jill) and Steven (Amy); his beloved grandsons, Charlie, Jack, Joshua, Camden, and Hudson; and his siblings, Janis (Rex) Matlock and Don (Maggie) Reed, will miss him terribly and carry him in our hearts daily.
He lived fully, gave generously, laughed often, and passed quickly, just the way he wanted it. Rest peacefully, Dad.
David Charles Reed, Jr.
