Jerry was born on December 24, 1958, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, to the late Carl and Nona Rogers. Though his family moved frequently during his childhood, he graduated with honors from Brablec High School in Roseville. He went on to study electronics, earning certifications from Rhett’s Electronic School, and later built a career at Ford Motor Company, where he worked for nearly 25 years managing an electronics shop. After being laid off, Jerry launched his own appliance repair business, which quickly grew by word of mouth. Known as a “genius” at fixing things, he found joy in using his talents to help others. In 2011, determined to continue learning and growing, Jerry returned to school and completed his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Sienna Heights University.
In 1982, Jerry married Denise Rogers, and together they raised four daughters who became the pride and joy of his life. He could always be found cheering them on in the stands at dance performances, band concerts, winter guard shows, softball and volleyball games. He loved to tell anyone who would listen about his girls, often comparing them to the 1971 Baltimore Orioles pitching staff, calling them all “aces”.
In 2011, Jerry married Shannon Rogers, his soulmate. Together they shared a love for running, traveling, and Disney World. Jerry even converted Shannon from hotels to camping, and they enjoyed many adventures in their travel trailer including their most recent trip to Custer, South Dakota and the Badlands, just a week before his passing.
A lifelong lover of the stars, Jerry had a deep fascination with space, astronomy, and science fiction. He especially enjoyed watching meteor showers and visiting planetariums. It was during a show at his high school planetarium that he was first introduced to what became his favorite band, The Moody Blues. Jerry was also a devoted Star Trek fan, inspired by its spirit of exploration and hopeful vision of the future. Whether he was quoting Captain Picard or sharing facts about the universe, his enthusiasm for the final frontier was both genuine and contagious.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Shannon; his daughters, Jennifer (Chris Pate) Rogers, Rebecca (Ryan) Earley, and Emily (Peter Richey) Rogers; his brother, Carl (Lisa) Rogers; and nephews Joseph, Brandon, and Matthew. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathryn and his parents, Carl and Nona Rogers.
