Gerry was born January 23, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan to Bernard and Helen (Assessor) Ayotte and lived and worked in the Detroit area her entire life. She grew up in the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood in Detroit, graduated from St. Martin’s High School and worked for Chrysler Corporation before getting married and starting a family.
Gerry was a longtime resident of St. Clair Shores where she was an active member of the St. Isaac Jogues parish and an even longer time resident of Clinton Township where she was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Community. She almost never missed Sunday Mass in either church. She was most recently a resident of the Oakmont Parkway Senior Community in Clinton Township.
She and her husband, Richard, enjoyed traveling after his retirement. She was always happy when surrounded by her large family and she enjoyed cooking and baking for them. A lifelong goal of hers was the almost impossible task of getting everyone together for a family picture.
Gerry is survived by her children and their spouses: Thomas & Gul, Gary & Lynn, Deborah & Ron, Stephen & Julie, Kenneth & Kathleen, and Philip, and by sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her spouse of 72 years, Richard, her son Matthew, her grandson Akeil and her sister Elaine.
