Gertrude “Trudi” Joy Stroud, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, traveler, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, in Clinton Township, Michigan. She was 95 years old.
Born on September 3, 1930, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Trudi lived a rich and full life marked by compassion, elegance, and an unshakable commitment to family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Donald Stroud, with whom she shared countless adventures across the globe, from African safaris to journeys through Asia and Europe.
Trudi’s career reflected her deep care for others. She worked as a pediatric nurse and later pursued her entrepreneurial spirit by opening a travel agency. She also devoted herself to her family as a stay-at-home mother and served her community through volunteer work, including roles in her church and as a marriage counselor.
Family was the heart of Trudi’s world. She was the proud mother of Cheryl Stroud (Gary Lewandowski), Dennise Carmack (Don), Jeffrey Stroud (Diane), Steven Stroud, and David Stroud. She was a loving grandmother to Matthew Fraser (Stephanie), Christopher Fraser (Danielle), Nichole Neumann (DJ), Kyle Fraser (Sarah), Dr. Alyssa Rosen (Dr. Ryan), Ian Atwell, Mitch Stroud, Alexis Humphries (Kalon), Kelly Lewandowski, Laura Stroud, and Collin Stroud.
She was equally adored by her great-grandchildren: Paige Martin (Nick), Ethan Fraser, Cameron Fraser, Ava Neumann, Max Christenson, Violet Fraser, Carlie Neumann, Mila Fraser, and Ainsley Fraser. Trudi was also a beloved sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, and friend to many.
A woman of refinement and flair, Trudi had an eye for the finer things, she was rarely seen without her signature jewelry, fur coats, and impeccable style. Her hair and nails were always done just so. She was a passionate cook, known especially for the holiday crêpes she made every Christmas, and for the fabulous dinners she prepared as she brought the entire family together, something she valued above all else.
She had a warm heart and a quick wit. Known for her honesty, often delivered with disarming frankness, Trudi was deeply kind, generous, and fiercely supportive. She loved the arts, music (especially Neil Diamond and John Denver), and never missed an opportunity to share in a laugh or a heartfelt moment with those she loved.
Trudi leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and connection. Her enduring commitment to family and the joy she found in life’s adventures will live on in all who knew her.
In accordance with her wishes, Trudi will be cremated. A private celebration of life will be held with family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you honor Trudi’s memory by gathering with loved ones, sharing a good meal, or simply taking a moment to cherish the bond of family, something she held sacred
