Journey of Life-
Our beloved Gwendolyn Louise Clemons, affectionately known as Gwen, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 11, 2023 at McLaren Macomb Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving and supportive family.
Gwen was a committed wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister and beloved daughter born to Edward and Louise Ponder, who preceded her in death.
Gwen was born September 23, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to Detroit, Michigan when she was 14 years old. She graduated from South Eastern High School and started working for Michigan Bell phone company as a phone operator. She soon began working for Chrysler Assembly Plant. Gwen married Rufus Edward Clemons in 1968. From their union 3 children were born, Alicia Jones (Frazier), Rufus Clemons Jr, who dies shortly after being born, and Shannon Clemons.
Gwen dedicated herself to her family. She was the matriarch of the family. Her loving spirit would melt your heart and her sense of humor would have you laughing so hard. She was hilarious and always told it how it was. Gwen loved a full life. She loved slot machines and playing cards. Bid whist and Tunk were her favorites. When it came to fashion, she sure loved to shop and get her nails done. She loved smelling good and her wig collection.
Gwen leaves to cherish, 2 children, Alicia Jones (Frazier) and Shannon Clemons, 5 grandchildren, Myia (Mitchell), Bria, Ryan (Chelsea), Cameron and Kia and 4 great grandchildren, Mitchell III, Xhomarys, Monsae and Brielle. She also leaves 2 living siblings, James Ponder (Anne) and Angela Knight. Lots of nieces, nephews and friends as well.
As we cherish all of Gwen's greatest memories "We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord" 2 Corinthians 5:8
A visitation for Gwendolyn will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Kaul Funeral Home. A visitation will occur Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am, Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48035. Burial will be a Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton Township, Michigan.
