James Oliver DeMand, of Clinton Twp., passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the age of 74. Beloved husband of 51 years to Sharon; adored father of James Oliver (Julie) DeMand II, Jennie Alice (David) Elwarner, Kimberly Ann (Jason) Little, and Michele Ann (Paul) Dugas; dear grandfather of Jessica (Tom) Brenner, Kyle David Elwarner, Jacob James Little, Bradley Gerard Dugas, Christopher Michael Little, Sarah Elizabeth Dugas, and Hailey Marie Elwarner; proud great-grandfather of Meadow Grace Brenner; brother of the late Melvin Leroy DeMand and the late Beverly Jean Sacquety. James is survived also by several nieces, nephews and extended family members. James (or King James as he so humbly called himself) was born on October 10, 1943 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Melvin and Jennie DeMand.
He proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1962- 1968. Eventually James found a career in meat cutting – something he enjoyed doing for over 3 decades.
James loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed attending all of their events over the years. When he wasn’t spending time joking around with family and friends he enjoyed trips to the casino, fishing, camping, bowling and watching his beloved Michigan State Spartans & Green Bay Packers (Both of which he loved because most of his family didn’t like them).
Inurnment with military honors will take place at 10:30 am on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made in James's honor directly to the family or the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org)
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday March 17, 2018 at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, 16661 E. State Fair Ave. Detroit, MI 48205.
