Dear Uncle John, living to be over a hundred years old is pretty standard in the family of old, as my mother told me. Although not really my uncle, but my cousin, you are the last of a generation that still knew each other. My generation, the 4th, if I calculated correctly, knows only some of my cousins but seldom keeps in contact even with them. I will miss knowing that there is still an elder ahead of me. Enjoy your reunion with Lottie, I know that you missed her. Please say hello to my mom and the rest of the Baldaks looking over us. You will be in my thoughts.


As a child, back in the 40s, my parents, Lorraine and Matt Poleski visited John and his dear wife Lottie. I was only 5 or 6 years old at the time, but I remember a lot of laughter amongst all of them together. Our respective families lived far apart and I do wish that we had more contact. I could have learned much about life from Mr. Baldak. I also thank him for his service to our beloved country. My sincerest condolences go to my cousin Lori (Lorraine) and her entire family. I am so grateful to have had my grandfather for so many wonderful years.  "Johnny Cool" was a fine example of a good man, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather.  I always admired his hard work ethic.  His smile was infectious and his sense of humor kept us all entertained for all of his years with us.  I will miss him dearly.

Well Great Grandpa,
It's pretty amazing you lived to be 102! I love you and miss you. My favorite memory of you is when we were up north at Mr. and Mrs.  Augustitus's Cottage and a bat flew in the house and you had to get it out with a towel! This was many years ago and I can still remember it vividly in my head! I will forever remember your laugh and picture your smile. Hopefully you are doing all of your favorite things now! Bowling, Mexican train and acting like you don't hear what your wife is saying! Haha I love you so so much!

I have so many fond memories of Mr. Baldak.  What a wonderful life he lived.  Thanks for treating me like a daughter, John, all through my childhood/teen years.  What a good man you were, and so welcoming to everyone.  In later years, Karl and I had the pleasure of your company as we learned to play Mexican Train dominoes with you and your family.  You and Lottie kept us in stitches.  We'll miss you, John, but happy for you that you're with your wife, Lottie, and all of your loved ones who went before you.   Prayers for the family.

We have been so blessed to have Uncle John (and Aunt Lottie) as part of our family.  They have shown us how to have a happy heart when it wasn’t easy.  

Uncle John has given us so many memories, such as the snake story, the chain saw invention, an electric start adapted to his lawn mower and climbing our apple tree when he was in his mid nineties.  He never thought of himself as old and unable to do things.  Maybe that is the secret of centurions. 

We are thankful as we remember both of you and understand that you both are in the Lord’s arms and the comfort of His love; thus no longer suffering.  

And finally, Lori and Bob and your family: You guys are awesome caregivers.
