

John "Jack" McCauley, age 83 passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025 after a long battle with prostate cancer at his home in New Baltimore, Michigan. He leaves behind his loving wife Janis; his beloved daughters, Amy McCauley and Emily Billings (Mike); grandchildren Mac, Josh, Ben, and Josie; his sisters Lois Roberts (Don) and Ruth Forsell, as well as many nieces and nephews. He became an integral part of his wife's family when they married in 2017.
He was born and raised in Wyandotte, Michigan with a short time attending military school before graduating from Wyandotte High School. He then attended Western Michigan University where he received his bachelor's degree and Michigan State University where he received his master's degree.
The next 50 years were spent in education positions in Mt. Clemens and Lapeer, culminating with the formation of the Chatfield Charter School in Lapeer as its founder and co-director until he retired. During those years he was also active in the Lapeer Rotary Club, volunteer coaching, and the formation of the Chatfield Chess Club.
Time spent with his grandsons at the yearly air shows was a much anticipated event that took them as close as Selfridge Airfield or as far as Chicago. Through the years his love of dogs was apparent. His buddies Scooby and Shaggy were always at his side.
He has always been a pillar of strength to family and friends throughout his life. His example will be carried on by those who love and admire him. He has been an avid golfer for many years and always looked forward to the annual outings even when he became just the cheering section.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025. A brief gathering will begin at 10 AM until time of a memorial service at 11 AM at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road, Clinton Township, Michigan 48038.
